Dubbed by some, "the Young Oprah," Karen Civil is making her mark. Civil, the creator and owner of www.KarenCivil.com and Always Civil Enterprises, LLC, has created her own niche within the media and communications industry. With more than 200k+ Instagram followers, the Brooklyn born social media maven and author is proof that you can create something from nothing.
Ladies, please take note: you can be polished, promote positivity and still get paid!
A former shy girl, her first experience with social media, was creating a fan page for actor, J.D. Williams who played "Bodie" on The Wire. The page got thousands of followers, led to her meeting the actor, and proved her knack for branding and social media. And that was how it all began. Fast forward a few years, and in 2015, she told A.R. Shaw of Rolling Out Magazine, her companies generated more than a half million dollars through social media and her websites. And she has partnered or worked with established brands like Beats By Dre, Carol's Daughter, and Cover Girl.
She is the creative mastermind behind KarenCivil.com, her business since 2008. KarenCivil.com is a site that gives readers an industry insider's look into the world of hip hop. Different from other hip hop sites and publications, one of Civil's goals is to introduce the world to up and coming talent in the industry. Stars like Drake, Nipsey Hussle, and J.Cole, were first featured on KarenCivil.com.
As owner of Always Civil Enterprises, LLC, she specializes in implementing client Social Media Strategy, developing brand awareness, generating inbound traffic and encouraging product adoption.
These days the young entrepreneur is headlining a "Girl Power" Tour and has a client list that sounds more like a playlist, that includes Pusha T, Nipsey Hussle, Beats By Dre, Young Jeezy, Mary J. Blige, and All Def Digital. Her company recently made the Black Enterprise’s “40 Best Companies For Diversity” issue, and her book, "Be You & Live Civil" is available now online.
