Have you ever wanted that “perfect” hairstyle? I am talking about every strand of hair is in place, there’s no presence of fly a-ways and even your edges are laid. This is usually how I look when I leave the hairdresser. Unfortunately, we females can’t go to the hair salon for every hairstyle that we may need. To make matters worse, it's impossible to carry our hairstylists in our purse for emergency touch-ups. OMG! What is a girl to do?!
I have gone through my fair share of hair hiccups and I had to learn from my own mistakes. In life there’s no right time to make a mistake, or to learn from one. Therefore during our Prom Takeover here in "Beau-tea with Ashley," I’m going to suggest some techniques and products that can help prolong the life of your hairstyle by keeping your edges looking like you just left the salon. Have no fear - Ashley is here!
Top 5 Edge Control Products
Shekinah Jo is both hairstylist and friend to Tameka “Tiny” Harris (T.I.’s wife). She is also the brilliant creator of Shekinah Jo Beautiful Edges, $ 15.00. The edge control itself is thick with a sticky yet rubbery consistence. In my opinion it is the BEST edge control product out on the market right now. The reason being is because it’s long lasting and keeps the edges slick without curling or lifting after a period of time and there is no sign of flaking or white residue.
My best friend recommended Hicks Edges to me and this product worked wonders! This fresh scented product’s consistency is soft yet smooth and of course sticky. I actually love this product. When I am looking for a light hold this is my go to. I don’t have to worry about it leaving my edges sticky and there’s no flaking, which is an A in book!
Keracare’s Edge Tamer is silky and glides on to the hair with ease. It’s not greasy like some edge controls. There is a minty presence in the scent and it does leave a tingling sensation after applying it to the hair.
The Mane Choice went from making vitamins to creating a full line of hair products. I’ve watched them expand and I’ve even indulged in their many prod
ucts. After seeing Teyana Taylor mention the release of their styling gel, I inquired to see whether or not they created an edge control. After my findings I literally ran to my beauty supply store and purchased it. The scent is incredible and the hold is amazing. The product itself isn’t thick it’s actually smooth and easy to maneuver when applying. I’ve even used it to sleek my entire hair into a bun and I was in-love after that moment. Plus it’s a growth stimulant. It’s a 2 for 1 if you ask me.
Paul Mitchell Wax Works isn’t necessarily an edge control but I use it as one. Paul Mitchell does offer Dry Wax, which is something I consider edge control. But you have to use what works for you and for me wax works is great. It’s a waxy liquid and it’s not a hard hold at all. But it does offer a nice sleek look on the edge while offering a light sheen to the hair. You can use this both on your hair and your edges. I know I do!
